Q. What file format will Peel Graphics accept into it's workflow?

A. Since our workflow is pdf based, the most desirable file format is a print-ready pdf. Otherwise we will accept native files from most popular professional graphic software packages like Quark Xpress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop etc. Please check with us if your file is not one of the formats listed.

Please note that we may not be able to make corrections to your PDF file content. To ensure that you are fully prepared to print, please review our handy prepress guide.

Q. Can I submit Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel files for print jobs?

A. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Publisher are not recommended for any type of print production. These programs were not designed for a commercial print production workflow. The output from these types of files is unpredictable. When submitting Microsoft files, a legible accurate hard copy is a must! The unpredictable nature of these files may require additional time to produce and pre-press charges to reformat.

Q. Why does my copy look fuzzy in Photoshop?

A. Using Photoshop for layouts that contain text is not recommended. If the file is not saved as an eps to include vector data, then the text will print with fuzzy edges. If you are an advanced Photoshop user in versions 7 and/or CS and know how to save your text as vector data, then you can avoid this problem. If you are not familiar with this, then it is best to use a different application to lay out your text.

Q. What factors could inhibit fast turn-around for my job?

A. Starting with the prepress area, the usual suspects are lo-rez images included in documents, missing fonts, RGB images, unconverted spot colours in a cmyk job etc. Double checking all documents before submitting the files will generally reduce slowdowns in prepress. In the production area, it may be specialty papers that need to be ordered or mill items that require transportation time to be factored in. This potential time delay needs to be addressed during the estimating phase.

The most common reason for delayed turn-around in production is usually in the bindery area. Specialty bindings or finishes mean extra time needs to be built into your planning to accommodate anything unusual, or requiring special care or detailed attention.

Peel Graphics is committed to providing you with prompt, flexible service in meeting your delivery deadlines. If fact, we're known for our ability to produce fast turn-around. Anticipating these potential delays however, will make for a smoother, more successful print project.

Q. Why don't the colours in the final proofs match exactly what I see on my screen?

A. Matching colours can be a tricky thing. Especially if you start by comparing two different media. They are like comparing apples to oranges. Monitors use projected light for viewing, and hard copy proofs use reflected light. As a result, some colours may be inconsistent between them.

Monitors may also vary depending on manufacturer, quality, lighting conditions, resolution, calibration and even the software package being used. So what should you trust, if you can't trust your monitor?

To ensure consistency we suggest you use the Pantone colour matching system. It’s a print industry standard and will ensure that your hard copy proof comes closest to matching.

It doesn’t end there. The best part comes when you’re happy with the printed sheet coming off our press. We save the colour profile of your job and you’re guaranteed that those approved colours will be duplicated exactly and consistently from the beginning, to the end of the run. Even if the job is repeated later, it will not vary. That’s the beauty of having the best printing press in the world.

The bottom line is that if you have any colour concerns, our production staff will work closely with you to achieve your final vision. And we have the best equipment to make it happen.
